Year Of The Dragon

The Jade Emperor, ruler of heaven and earth, decided it would be easier for the people to measure time if he gave them a proper calendar. He decided to name each year after one of twelve animals in a zodiac.

Twelve years ago we began creating big paper banners to decorate our practice space and to commemorate our trips around the Sun. Our first was the Dragon. Now we have come full circle. Our display is complete..

Wall space is limited, so starting now, each year's animal will be painted on a canvas, to hang on the Shomen..

As we fondly recall our journey together, we appreciate how far we've come. In recent years, the pandemic prevented us from sharing Reunion Dinner, the main event of Chinese New Year. This year, we were happy to celebrate with a delicious fondue meal, again under Dragon's watchful eye!

A few days before the gathering, we prepared by purchasing the food and cleaning the dojo. During the meal we sang the traditional New Year ‘Gong Xi Gong Xi’ wishing each other health and happiness. Some knew the song while others learned it anew, and after a few repetitions, we all got pretty good, as we warmed up our spirit.

It was wonderful to be able to share our New Year meal, with joy and laughter. We look forward to a blessed year, of good health and great prosperity,

Joy of Life!!
